Easy Family Skillet Meal | Spinach Tortellini with Broccoli & Italian Sausage

Skillet dishes are always a crowd-pleasing dish in my home. We LOVE pasta so I have to get really creative. This dish is easy and also super decadent! Serve with a nice California Chardonnay or a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc.

You Will Need

20 oz (typically one pack) fresh spinach tortellini

2 heads of broccoli, cut into florets

1 lb sweet or hot italian sausage

6 cloves of garlic, minced

1/4 cup olive oil

1 /2 cup pecorino

fresh or dried parsley and basil

Preparation

Blanche the broccoli to your favorite consistency and set aside. separately in a large pot (this pot will be used for the ultimate dish), sauté garlic and brown + mince the sausage adding in basil and parsley (if fresh basil & parsley, sauté with garlic before adding in the sausage). While browning the sausage, cook the tortellini as the directions on the package suggest. I like to undercook since it will cook a bit more when added to the other ingredients. I cook the tortellini a little over a minute if its fresh. Add the tortellini to the sausage using about a half cup of pasta water, add in the broccoli and salt & pepper to taste and stir well. Add olive oil and pecorino and bring to a boil. Once rolling, turn down and simmer for a minute or so with the lid on. Serve immediately! We like to add crushed red pepper flakes, too.
