The Big Island

The Big Island differs from Maui in that it is COVERED in Volcanic Rock. We flew into Kona and stayed in Hawi and Puakea Ranch

I've never done Hawaii quite like this before. We stayed at a ranch for one of my dear friend's weddings. And it was amazing. There were beautiful white horses, goats, chickens, and a beautiful garden. Every morning we made breakfast and ate on the beautiful patio that overlooked the entire ranch and the beautiful ocean. The pool looked like a pond, you could barely tell it was manmade. It was such a surreal and serene experience. I feel like I really needed this experience to fall back in love with ALL of god's creatures, not just the ones I get to pick and choose living in the city. I'm still working on the 8-legged creatures, but I've made peace with the dragonflies and bees, at least.

If you're in the mood for dessert, hop on down the road to the little Fresh Off The Grid food truck and have some Shave Ice or my favorite, 1 scoop coconut ice cream with 1 scoop Kona coffee ice cream. And if you're in the mood for brunch, look no further than the little boutique hotel is Hawi, Kohala Village in the Hub Pub. Great food, atmosphere, outside dining, and amazing coffee!

Looking for a beach? Hapuna Beach, sometimes listed as the best beach in the US.

Swim with sea turtles in a lagoon? Carlsmith Beach.

Watch crazy waves crash in with your lawn chairs propped on volcanic rock? Check out the beaches closest to the airport.
